The Mask Exposed

Date: July 23 and 24 (2-Day Class)
Class Time: 0800-1700
Location: TBA
PPE: Full PPE & SCBA

The Mask Exposed is a course that is intended for both tenured and inexperienced firefighters alike. The foundational piece of equipment that defines interior structural firefighting is the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and the development of a disciplined, confident firefighter is essential to maximize performance under live fire. Understanding the mechanics of the equipment, breathing techniques, managing stress, and troubleshooting are the hallmarks of firefighters who can think clearly and act decisively on the fire ground. This course is designed from a walk-crawl-run methodology which reinforces the basics of SCBA functions, to mask up drills and time pressure, to stress drills in live smoke environments.

Through controlled breathing, deliberate movement, and realistic, uncomfortable training, students will learn to manage anxiety, conserve air, and maintain composure when visibility, time, and comfort are stripped away. Our mission is not to teach firefighters how to survive panic, but to minimize it through exposing our weaknesses. Through preparation, mindset, and discipline in SCBA functions and air management principles we will work to ensure students are more effective in their masks when it matters most.
