A Mayday is every firefighter’s worst-case scenario and when it happens, there is no time to figure it out for the first time. This class delivers real-world experience integrated into realistic, high-stress training, connecting Command and Firefighters into a single, coordinated response.

This course goes beyond theory, focusing on how Maydays actually unfold on today’s fireground. Drawing from line-of-duty incidents and near-miss events, students train on decision-making under stress, disciplined communication, and coordinated action at every level of the incident.

From the firefighter in trouble, to crews operating nearby, to the Incident Commander managing the scene, participants will clearly understand their role before, during, and after a Mayday.

Course topics include:

• Early warning signs and Mayday recognition

• Proper Mayday transmission, LUNAR reports, and radio control

• Firefighter survival skills: air management, self-rescue, and disentanglement

• Crew and RIT responsibilities during a Mayday

• Command considerations for resource deployment and incident control

• Lessons learned from real-world Mayday events

This course is ideal for line firefighters, company officers, and command staff seeking realistic, relevant training that prepares them to perform when it matters most.
