Higher Ground Leadership is a purpose-driven leadership workshop designed to develop servant leaders at every level of the fire service. Led by Chief Bo Butler, this course challenges attendees to grow as leaders of character grounded in faith, accountability, and service to others. Through mentorship-focused discussion and practical leadership principles, participants will explore what it means to establish and defend their own “high ground” while positively influencing their crews, organizations, and families. The end state is clear: build effective fire service leaders who lead with conviction, humility, and purpose on and off the job.
About Bo!
Bo Butler, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, took his profound sense of duty to serve and joined the fire service and United States Army in 2002, serving his Nation during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Back home, he became a fire service leader, earning the respect of his peers and community. His career was full of achievements, but one standout event led to him being awarded a Medal of Valor for rescuing two firefighters during a four-alarm blaze in 2022. Through years of service, he rose to the position of Chief of the Londonderry Fire Department in 2023, swearing in on September 11, 2023 - a date of marked significance. However, in 2024 Bo made headlines by resigning rather than compromising safety by cutting staffing levels, despite political and budgetary pressure. His principled stand went viral and highlighted his deep commitment to servant leadership, integrity, and public safety. A man of strong faith and family values, Butler draws strength from his wife and five children. He continues to serve by being a fire service advocate, leader, and defender.
