This class focuses on building a competent, confident, and aggressive search culture to improve civilian rescue outcomes. With most fire fatalities occurring in residential structures, a strong search mindset is one of the most critical responsibilities on the fireground.

What the Class Covers:

  • Search Mindset: Why we search and who we’re there for.

  • Search Techniques: Body positioning, tool selection, and effective use of TICs.

  • Search Patterns: Oriented, split, and combination methods.

  • Communication: Clear, simple, and industry-standard methods.

  • Victim Removal: Drags, body positioning, and efficient movement.

  • Vent-Enter-Search: How, why, and when to perform VES.

Format:

  • 90-minute presentation

  • 30-minute Q&A and discussion

  • Remainder of the day: 3 hands-on stations

    • Residential search ahead of the line

    • Vent-Enter-Search

    • Finding victims while assigned to fire attack
